If you'll be attending university next year then there's a high chance that you'll arrange your accommodation well in advance. At most universities the on campus accommodation is snapped up well in advance, which can be problematic for some late comers. However, in most towns that are located close to a university, there will be plenty of privately let accommodation aimed at students too.

In the past student accommodation has had a reputation for being extremely unpleasant. However, this is no longer the case and many student houses are clean, modern and well looked after. Students have come to expect more for their money so double glazing and tiled floors in the kitchen and bathroom are not uncommon. Some landlords who make most of their money from students will go to great lengths to ensure that their properties are in good condition as there will be plenty of competition from other local landlords. So, expect double glazing and high quality central heating when looking for accommodation, as these features are considered to be standard by most landlords.

Many people find that living off university campus is a lot cheaper. However, some people who have not lived on their own before may be taken by surprise when they soon find they have deal with everyday tasks like paying bills and keeping the house tidy. However, most people who've not experienced life away from mum and dad will soon adjust by learning the hard way.
